China cabinets; a place to keep your valuable items

You probably think of it as something in your grandmother’s house; an old china cabinet in the corner of the kitchen that is full of plates, dishes, and coffee cups that are too valuable to use. But placing your find china in a china cabinet can be a great way to display your items and keep them from breaking.

Whether you got them for your wedding, an anniversary, or just to spoil yourself, most people own a set of fine china. These sets hold enormous monetary value and even more emotional significance, so you want to keep them safe from harm.

Your normal plates and bowls will be quite durable, and can withstand a few nicks and bumps, but china is different, and some of them will be quite delicate. A china cabinet is the safest place to keep your fragile goods when they are not being used.

Although the name suggests you can and should only keep your fine china in a china cabinet, they can be used for much more. Your favourite set of knives that you keep sharpened to a point can be displayed proudly through the protective glass of a china cabinet, as well as the coffee mugs you collected on your travels around the country, your child’s first set of cutlery, or your Elvis memorabilia plates.

If you want your china cabinet to have a more modern feel, you can bypass the antique shops and second hand stores and go straight to your local furniture shop. Many of these places will have their own range of post-modern designed furniture, so you can have a china cabinet that looks and feels as modern as everything else in your kitchen.
